Directed by: Michael Winterbottom. After really enjoying the first movie, I thought I’d treat myself to a little mindless, follow-up, sequel fun. There’s not much to say about this that I didn’t already say in the other one. If you think these guys are absolutely great and hilarious like I do, then what more do you need to know? If not, don’t see it. These movies are very specific, bourgeois, sight-seeing, restaurant-reviewing, upper-class dry-as-desert comedies, full of the recurring musical swells from whatever piece that is from Godard’s movie Contempt that they talk about. The high mark for me is the dream sequence showing the two actors in costumes and moustaches, re-creating that famous scene from Godfather II. What a bunch of fucking goofballs. If you want to see the same two middle aged guys trade Pacino impersonations, but with the added twist of an Alanis Morrissette singalong through the Italian hills, then this movie is for you.
